Teaching Method
I have collated a huge amount of performing, recording and personal practice experience. My aim with my students is to impart as much of this knowledge as I can, ranging from basic co-ordination and technique to performance and musical artistry.
My method with younger students and beginners is to keep the lessons engaging and fun by teaching them their favourite songs and by teaching them basic co-ordination and technique. I am able to prepare them for grades 1-8 (in theory as well as drum-kit) in order to suppliment their learning if they desire.
For more advanced students I have a much more demanding approach to really propel their skill levels. I expand on technique, paying close attention to different grips and in which musical situations these are most beneficial. I delve into advanced co-ordintation exercises utilising all of their limbs to create layered patterns as is in Jazz and Latin music. I create and notate personalised exercises specifically for each student. As well as practical tutoring, I am able to offer various insights into the industry and life as a working musician. I am able to offer advice on students thinking about being a musician or an artist as a career path. For example I can give tips on nerves whilst performing, getting gigs, finding your own sound on the drums and feeding your creative side.
